Frequently asked

Frequently asked questions about bookkeeping for Brazilians in the US

The same questions come up in almost every first conversation. These are the answers.

The service

What exactly does GS Brasil do?

GS Brasil runs the financial routine of your US company: bank and card reconciliation, transaction categorization, payables and receivables, invoicing, monthly close with P&L and Balance Sheet, cash flow forecasting and KPI definition. On top of that, it supports pricing, hiring and investment decisions based on those numbers.

Is a bookkeeper the same as an accountant?

No. The bookkeeper handles the monthly financial routine: recording, categorizing, reconciling and reporting. The accountant, or CPA, uses that material to calculate and file taxes. They are different and complementary roles. GS Brasil hands the organized package to your CPA, which usually cuts cost and rework at tax time.

Do you file my taxes?

No. GS Brasil does not calculate or file taxes. That work belongs to your accountant or CPA. What we deliver is the closed and checked material they need to file correctly and without charging for rework.

Do I need to already use QuickBooks?

No. If you already use it, GS Brasil takes over the operation and reviews the setup. If you do not, we implement it from scratch, including a chart of accounts fit for your industry and bank connections. Gustavo Brasil is a Certified QuickBooks PRO Advisor.

Who we serve

Which states do you serve?

The client base is in Florida and Massachusetts, the two states with the largest concentration of Brazilian-owned companies served today. The work is remote, so companies in other states are served as well, as long as the operation is in the United States.

What kind of company do you serve?

Small and mid sized companies and family businesses, with hands on experience in three industries: construction, law firms and restaurants. In those three GS Brasil works with the industry systems, Buildertrend, MyCase and Toast, integrated with QuickBooks.

My books are more than a year behind. Is it still possible?

It is, and that is exactly why the Financial Diagnosis exists. It is a three month project that starts with an audit of the last three to six months, puts the base in order and ends with a presentation of the real result of the business. After that you decide whether to move to the monthly routine.

Do you really serve in Portuguese, or only at the start?

All the service happens in Portuguese, English or Spanish, from first contact to the monthly result meetings. You speak with Gustavo Brasil directly, not with a call center.

How it works in practice

How does it start?

With a twenty to thirty minute conversation, no commitment, on WhatsApp or by call. In it we understand where the business is, the systems you already use and the level of support that makes sense. Only then comes the proposal.

How long until the numbers are in order?

For a company with books up to date, the first full close comes out the month after we start. For a company with late books, the timeline depends on volume, and the three month Diagnosis exists precisely to give that case a predictable path.

How often do we talk?

On the Basic plan, contact is monthly, with a meeting to present the close. On Premium, support is weekly, with a direct channel for day to day questions, no queue and no ticket.

Do I need to sign a long contract?

The monthly plans are recurring and can be ended with notice. The Diagnosis has a fixed three month scope. If you want to try the work before committing to a monthly routine, the Diagnosis is usually the best starting point.

Price and security

How much does it cost?

The price is set by two factors: the volume of transactions and accounts to reconcile per month, and the level of support you want. A company with few transactions and a monthly close costs much less than one with daily movement and weekly meetings. That is why the price comes after the first conversation, not before.

How do you access my financial information?

Through QuickBooks itself, with user access granted by you and revocable at any time. Bank accounts are connected in read only mode, which allows seeing transactions without any permission to move money.

Do you move money from my account?

No. GS Brasil records, reconciles and organizes. Payments and transfers stay with you or whoever you authorize. Access is read only.
